Every year since 1900, the Audubon Society conducts a Christmas Bird Count.  This year people all over North and South America December 14, 2018  through January 5, 2019 joined up in groups to count birds in designated areas.  Each area is organized by an experienced complier and includes a 15 mile wide diameter and volunteers count every bird they hear or see.
This year Rotary Club member Linda Taylor arranged to have a group go out to Lake Casitas on January 5 to count birds.  There were amateur and experienced bird watchers on the boat compiling a list of all the birds on the lake.  The Rotary Floating Classroom pontoon boat project is run by Reggie Woods and he was helped by Steve Adams, Mike Caldwell, Linda Taylor and Linda Burr on Friday to get the boat ready for the birders to use on Saturday.
The information compiled by all the groups on the two continents help to note what birds are missing or less than the year before which allows conservation groups like the Audubon Society to keep tabs on migratory and other birds.
